In Mirzapur, Tangail, a drug-addicted husband named Swapan Mia (25) hacked his wife, mother-in-law and Jeetas (wife's elder sister) and seriously injured them.
The incident took place at Talukdarpara village in Mehera union of the upazila on Thursday evening.

According to police and locals, Shila Akter, daughter of Sirajul Islam Shiru Miah of Short Mehera village in the adjoining Mehera union, got married to Swapan Mia of Guran village in Jamurki union of the upazila six months ago. After the marriage, wife Shila Akhter came to know that her husband was addicted to drugs and had had a previous marriage.
A few days after the marriage, drug addict Swapan used to physically abuse his wife Shila Akhter from time to time for bringing money from his father-in-law's house.
He moved to his father's house after his wife tortured him for demanding Rs 1 lakh a month ago. Yesterday, Swapan went to his father-in-law's house and demanded Rs 50,000 from his wife and mother-in-law. Upon receiving the news, the police led by Sub-Inspector (SI) of Mirzapur Police Station Abul Bashar went to arrest Swapan and bring him to the police station. "The police will release him with the money," the locals said, refusing to hand over Swapan to the police.
At the time, local chairman Badsha Mia wanted to reassure the locals, but they refused to hand over Swapan to the police. Later, at around 10:30 pm,
