Wife of late mayor Shimul nominated as Awami League candidate in Tangail's Mirzapur municipality election

The Upazila Awami League has nominated Salma Akhter alias Shimul wife of late Mayor Shahadat Hossain Sumon, as its candidate in the by-election of Tangail's Mirzapur municipality.The decision was taken after discussions with party candidates at the office of Upazila Parishad chairman and Upazila A-League vice-president Mir Enayet Hossain Montu on Tuesday evening.
Mir Sharif Mahmud, general secretary of the Upazila Awami League, said party leaders were preparing to take part in the by-elections. However, his wife Salma Akter Shimul has been nominated as the party's candidate after discussing the candidates in the light of the demands of the leaders and workers as well as respect for the late mayor.
Former mayor Advocate Mosharraf Hossain, vice-president of Upazila A-League, Farhad Uddin, president of Mirzapur Municipal Awami League, Mazharul Islam, organizing secretary of Upazila Awami League, Abul Hossain, president of Upazila Swechchhasebak League and Shamim Al Mamun, convener of Juba League were present at the meeting.
Salma Akhter said, I am grateful to the party leaders and workers. I wish blessings to all so that I can finish the unfinished work of the late mayor.
It may be mentioned that on February 11, Mayor Sumon died at a hospital in Dhaka. After his death on March 1, the local government department declared the post of mayor vacant. Voting will be held on October 10 through EVM.
